Is a ceramic coating worth it?

It genuinely lasts longer than wax and makes maintenance washing much easier. What it does not do is make paint scratch-proof or wash-free, whatever the marketing says. It also needs proper preparation to bond correctly - a coating over uncorrected paint just locks in the swirls.

How long does a full detail take?

A maintenance detail is a few hours. A correction detail on neglected paint can run considerably longer, and rushing it is how you get holograms and burnt edges. We will give you a realistic window for your car's actual condition when we assess it.

What do you need at my location?

Ideally shade or covered parking, a power point, and space to work around the whole car. Direct sun is genuinely a problem for polishing and coating work, so a shaded spot makes a real difference to the result.

What this service actually covers

Most of what makes older paint look tired is not dirt - it is thousands of fine scratches in the clear coat, mostly put there by bad washing technique. Those swirls scatter light in every direction, which reads to your eye as dullness. Machine polishing levels the clear coat very slightly so light reflects cleanly again, and that is where the depth comes back from.

Before any polishing, the paint has to be genuinely clean at a level washing cannot reach. Iron fallout from brake dust and industrial particles physically embed in the clear coat; they are removed chemically and with a clay treatment. Polishing over embedded contamination just drags it across the paint.

Then it needs protecting, and that choice is a real trade-off. Wax gives lovely warmth and lasts weeks. A synthetic sealant lasts months and resists heat better. A ceramic coating lasts far longer and makes washing much easier, but it demands proper preparation and it is not a scratch-proof shield - anyone who tells you otherwise is overselling it.

No, and you should be suspicious of anyone who says it will. Polishing works within the clear coat, so defects shallower than the clear coat can be reduced or removed.
