What this service actually covers
A lead-acid battery has two separate jobs: deliver a very high current for a few seconds to crank the engine, and hold a stable voltage for the electronics. A battery can pass a simple voltage check and still fail badly under cranking load, which is why a proper test loads it rather than just reading it.
Heat is what kills batteries in this climate. High ambient temperature accelerates the internal chemistry and the grid corrosion that eventually ends a battery's life, which is why batteries here often live shorter lives than their rating suggests.
