A modern car carries several kilometres of wiring and a network of modules talking to each other continuously. When something stops working, the fault could be the component, its supply, its earth, its control module, or the wiring between any of them. Replacing the component is the most visible option and frequently the wrong one.
Proper electrical diagnosis uses a multimeter and a wiring diagram: confirm supply voltage at the connector, confirm the earth path, check for voltage drop across the circuit under load, and only then condemn the component. It takes longer than swapping a part and it is the reason the fault actually goes away.
Parasitic drain - the flat battery every few days with no obvious cause - is a specific and very common version of this. It is found by measuring current draw with the car asleep and then pulling fuses methodically until the draw falls. It is patient work, but it is measurable rather than speculative.

How the visit runs
Understanding exactly when the fault appears is half the diagnosis on an electrical problem.
Battery and alternator are tested first, because a weak supply produces symptoms all over the car.
Supply, earth and voltage drop are measured at the component and back through the harness.
The fault is narrowed to a specific section of circuit and confirmed before any repair is quoted.
After repair, the circuit is retested under load to confirm the fault is genuinely resolved.
